Text: Psalm 30:1-12.
“1 I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. 2 O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. 3 O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. 4 Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. 5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. 6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. 7 Lord, by thy favor thou hast, made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled. 8 I cried to thee, O Lord; and unto the Lord I made supplication. 9 What profit is there in my blood when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth? 10 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou, my helper. 11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; 12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee forever.“
We did not just step into a New Year, in reality, we stepped into a New Gear – from failure into success, from barrenness into fruitfulness. The Psalmist said God changed his gear from mourning into dancing, from sorrow into joy. This Year is not going to be business as usual. The sorrow, failure, and barrenness of 2020 are gone. Weeping may endure in the night but joy comes in the morning. The morning always follows the night. The loss of something precious usually brings mourning, and the gain of something precious brings joy and dancing. When mourning ceases, celebration and jubilation are what comes after. This Year all your losses will be converted into gains.
God has been very faithful, He kept us safe from the pandemic of 2020, and we are here this morning to say Thank You for the preservation of our lives. He did not just preserve our lives, He even increased some of us in the midst of a recession. The Psalmist in Psalm 40 said – “I waited patiently for the Lord, and he inclined unto me and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.”
God has not only changed our story, but He has also given us a New Song just like Hannah in 1 Samuel 2:1-2 – “And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in The Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. There is none Holy as The Lord: for there is none beside Thee: neither is there any rock like our God.”
After the Children of Israel were miraculously delivered by God from Egypt, they sang – Exodus 15:1-2,11 –“Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto The Lord, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. The Lord is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation: He is my God, and I will prepare Him a habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt Him….Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like Thee, Glorious in Holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?”
To Sing a New Song This Year
1. Know God in Truth (not in lips) – Jn. 3:3
2. Wait Patiently for Him to effect a change in your life. Ps. 40:1
3. Be Faithful to Him all the way. 2 Tim. 4:2
God Bless You!
