Ministering: Senior Pastor Shola Awobajo.
Text: 1 Peter 5:1-4.
” 1 The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but [a]willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being [b]lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.”
Our above Text is an Exhortation for what Elders ought to be doing in The Church. Firstly, Elders ought to feed & nurture the flock of God in their midst. Secondly, Elders are to take oversight (especially in the place of Prayers) to ensure nothing goes wrong. Elders are in a position to impart and pour themselves into the coming generation. Inculcate the right discipline into the coming generation so that they will not depart from the Way of The Lord. Thirdly, do all not with constraints but willingly and in love. Fourthly, God is expecting you to be a godly example to the coming generation. Do not lord it over them but lead them by your own good examples. Set a pattern of integrity for the flock of God.
God is expecting you pass down the virtues of Fasting & Prayer to the coming generation. Now is not the time to retire but to re-fire your zeal for the things of God. Ps. 92:12-14 reveals that even in Old Age, Elders still ought to be fresh & flourishing bearing fruit to The Glory of God.
Deut. 34:7 makes us understand that Moses was still very strong at 120 Years. Romans 12:11 says You should not be slothful in the Business of God, but be fervent in spirit serving The Lord. You should still be concerned with how to still impart this generation and generations to come with the treasures of God.
Why must I continue to serve even in my old age
- It is an Heavenly Mandate upon Your Life.
- Note that You are representing God in Shepherding His People – Ps. 23.
- Note that God placed You where You are now for a Purpose – do not disappoint Him.
- God has preserved You to this age so as to make impact to the coming generation.
Conditions to be doubly honored
- You must serve Well – 1 Tim. 5:17.
- You must be sound in Character – 1 Pet. 5:3.
- You must be Faithful to the End. Rev. 2:10.
In conclusion, God’s expectation for your life is very high, many people’s destinies are attached to your life; being slothful in your assignment is failing those attached to your life. Be instant in seasons and at all times
God Bless You!
