Text: 2 Sam. 9:1-13.
” 1 David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 2 Now there was a servant of Saul’s household named Ziba. They summoned him to appear before David, and the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” “At your service,” he replied. 3 The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?” Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.” 4 “Where is he?” the king asked. Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.” 5 So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel. 6 When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor. David said, “Mephibosheth!” “At your service,” he replied. 7 “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.” 8 Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” 9 Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul’s steward, and said to him, “I have given your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. 10 You and your sons and your servants are to farm the land for him and bring in the crops, so that your master’s grandson may be provided for. And Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will always eat at my table.” (Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.) 11 Then Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do whatever my lord the king commands his servant to do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s[a] table like one of the king’s sons. 12 Mephibosheth had a young son named Mika, and all the members of Ziba’s household were servants of Mephibosheth. 13 And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet.” KJV
Mephibosheth’s weakness & infirmities were not strong enough to disqualify him from dining with the King. Here is a prince who ought to be living in the palace but is now crippled and hibernating in Lodebar. Lodebar means a land of dryness, waste and unfruitfulness. Mephibosheth’s condition is a mirror image of our condition before we gave our lives to the Lord. We were under the bondage of Satan (through Adam’s carelessness) before The King of Kings in His mercy sent for us. Prior salvation, we were all irreparable crippled in every area of life – spiritually, financially, health-wise etc.
Whenever God remembers anyone, He reverses every anti-scriptural condition. In Esther 6:1, the king opened the book of record, and Mordecai was remembered for good. God also has a book of remembrance where He restores the glory of His people. May God destroy every Haman inhibiting your promotion. Anytime the book of remembrance is opened, dignity and honor are accorded to a person. All through scripture, we see God remembering His people. God remembered His covenant with Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and all His faithful ones. He remembered Hannah in 1 Sam. 1:19. To everything there is a season. Realize that you are in a new season – a season of God’s remembrance for all your labor of love.
As for you also, Because of the Blood of your covenant, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. Return to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope. Even today I declare that I will restore double to you – Zech. 9:11-12. In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, this cup is the new covenant in my blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me – 1 Cor. 11:25. The blood of Jesus Christ is the symbol of God’s remembrance of His covenant with us.
What Happens When God Opens His Book of Remembrance
- Every weakness or mistake that has forestall your growth is taken care of – 2 Cor. 12:9
- You attain your full potential. Mephibosheth’s name means destroyer of shame
- There shall be restoration of all lost glory.
- You will recover your lost position, authority and benefits – Joel 2:25
- Cancellation of every low life (unfruitful labors). Jer. 30:17
- Cancellation of all curses and evil family patterns. Col. 2:14-15
In Closing, Ps. 126:1-2 – “When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them.” For the sake of Christ’s blood, God always remember us for good and cloth us with His glory.
God bless you!
