Text: Isaiah 5:1-7, Luke 13:6-9.
Isaiah 5:1-7 ” 1 Now will I sing to my well beloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: 2 And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. 3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard. 4 What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? 5 And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down: 6 And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. 7 For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry. ”
Luke 13:6-9 ” 6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? 8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.” KJV.
What does it mean to Bear Fruit?
To Bear Fruit means to produce the kind of Christ in your life and then in the lives of all around you. Bearing fruit also means living a life that reflects the characters and traits of God. A Tree is known by its fruits. We must never forget that we were redeemed as a garden unto the Lord. Our destiny as Christians is to be a garden that bears fruit unto the Lord.
6 Pivotal Points from Above Texts
- You are not on your own, you belong to the Lord, He owns you, you are His vineyard. Psalm 100
- We are a seed in the Hand of God.
- God has expectations for you to bear fruit (in every Season). John 15:1-2
- There is a God investment (The gardener) on your life. Everything God has given you is an investment
- Every day is an opportunity for us to bear fruit
- You don’t have forever to bear fruit. Our fruit bearing tenure is time-bound.
- The Lord is coming for harvest.
Fruitfulness is a non-negotiable to our Master. His expectation for every redeemed is to go and bear fruit. God is no respecter of any man. All the fathers of faith bore Fruits – our own case cannot be different because God has deposited His spirit within us to help us in bearing fruits of righteousness. Even when the Heroes of faith were in a foreign land (Joseph, Daniel, Esther etc), they all were bearing fruits unto the Master. Unfortunately, not everyone God chose bore good fruits, some bore bad fruits – examples are Gehazi, King Saul Judas, etc.
How Can We make Our Life a Fruitful Harvest?
- You must abide in Him (John 15:4-8): Stay connected to Him by developing an intimate relationship with God.
- Keep beholding the glory of the Lord. 2 Cor. 3:18
- Study and meditate on the word of God, day and night. Joshua 1:8, Colossians 3:18
- Cease from all forms of sins. Sin is a fox that spoils the vine. Sin is a reproach – it’s an unneeded weight. Heb. 12:1
- Obedience to God’s word. Phil. 2:8
- You must allow your faith to keep growing. Heb. 11:6
- You must be a soul-winner. Daniel 12:3
- A sacrificial life of service unto God and His Kingdom. Exod. 23:25
- Be very generous with forgiving others. Don’t let Satan bait you with bitterness.
Remember the value of your life is not the cars and houses you own but the measure of fruit you have borne unto God. Satan does not want us to bear fruit to God, so he keeps sowing tares whenever we sleep spiritually. The final Harvest is very close as the day of the Lord is fast approaching. Matt. 13:36-43.
In closing, Amos 6:1 says “Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!” Ephesians 5 says Christ is coming for a church without spot or wrinkle. Every Life is a container or vessel that is either containing God or Satan – who are you daily opening your life to be filled with – God or Satan?
God Bless You!
