Text: Daniel 1:1-8.
“1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem and besieged it. 2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god. 3 And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes; 4 Children in whom was no blemish, but well favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans. 5 And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king. 6 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: 7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego. 8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore, he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” KJV.
We live in a generation with all manner of voices. Many are confused to which “voice” to hearken to. There are so many voices from the media world influencing the culture around our children. Our above text is a classic example of how the enemy lures a generation to “Babylon” (departure from God). Daniel and the other Hebrew Boys were well raised, thus, refused to be corrupted with the King’s delicacies. Our mothers are partners with God in raising Kingdom seeds in a corrupted World. Mothers are very critical to God’s Agenda on Earth, as raising children is not a walk in the park. Many ills in the Society are the results of bad and careless parenting. Parents are the first role models that children emulate in life.
Revelations 12:17 tells us how the Dragon was furious with the woman that it went after her seed. Satan is still running after the souls of children; this is why we all must rise to the reality of this parenting warfare. 2 Timothy 1:5 – “I remember the sincere faith you have, the kind of faith that your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice also had. I am sure that you have it also”, we have been given the duty of ensuring our children come out right before God and men. We are to be good influencers, especially for our children. Mothers are usually our first Spiritual Leaders. No matter the contrary wind blowing in the environment, any child well brought up will stand. Daniel and his Friends stood their ground even in a strange land. The internet or social media is like a mighty ocean that has drowned many destinies because of the toxic contents many have opened their souls to.
How Mothers can help Children to Stand Firm
- Teach them their identity in Christ. Daniel had a strong identity before they took them to captivity. Luke 4
- Create a home where the truth of the word of God is louder than all other things (worldly trends, etc.).
- Model Christ to them. Let there be discernment in your house. Let them know who they are as children of the Kingdom.
Virtues a “Gen Z” Mother Must Have to Fulfill the Will of God
- Have a strong conviction of who you are in Christ Jesus – Proverbs 31 Woman
- Be Consistent – Let your yes be yes and your no be no. Don’t be wishy washy.
- Be Courageous – set boundaries and be firm when disciplining them.
- Be Clear what they must know about the Christian Faith.
- Be Compassionate with them because they are in a confused world. So many distractions competing for their attention.
Encouragements for Our Mothers
- You are not alone; Christ is with you in this parenting journey
- In as much as you have been faithful with what you are to do, God will honor your faithfulness by crowning your efforts with His Glory.
- As a Church, we will equip you with the word that builds and makes you a Godly mother. Titus 2:3-5
- As fathers, please be present to help our mothers. Speak life into the lives of your children.
- As children, obey your parents and be open and sincere with your parents about everything. Proverbs 1:8-9
In closing, in Genesis 18:19, God boosted about Abraham’s ability to raise His children in the ways of the Kingdom. God is still looking for men and women who will take full responsibility to raising their children to be a mighty arrow for God.
God Bless You!
