The God of Liberation (Look & Live)

The God of Liberation (Look & Live)

December 2025 | The Lord In The Midst of Thee is Mighty

Ministering: Pastor Shola Awobajo.

Text: Numbers 21:8-9.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.NKJV

As covenant children, our safety lies entirely in God being in our midst. Every time Israel sinned and God left them, there was anarchy and confusion in the camp. The pillar of cloud and fire was an emblem of God in their midst. Israel enjoyed light in the dark hours because the light of the world was with them. Our above text was an account of God’s remedy for Israel’s misery for tempting Him with their complaining and murmuring.

As we approach a new year, its important we set our gaze on the LORD! Israel was told to “Look and Live” and that’s the same instruction God is giving us in the New Testament – “Looking onto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith”. Many things, situations, and distractions will come our way in life, but we triumph by looking continually onto Jesus. There is nothing God promises you that He doesn’t have the ability to bring to pass. Never murmur against Him even in your heart, rather offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving even if there is no apparent external evidence (He is always working behind the scene). The just shall live by faith. Instead of gratitude, Israel kept murmuring, and were careless in their attitude towards God, thus, they opened the door for fiery serpents (afflictions) to come into their camp. May God forgive us for every complaint towards Him in our heart.

Where God is taking you and I to is infinitely better than whatever we are going through. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. 2 Cor. 4:17. The danger of ingratitude was documented in Malachi 2:1-2 – a curse from the Lord. May God have mercy upon us!

In Numbers 21:7 – Israel repented of their mistake of murmuring and God gave Moses the divine remedy for their ordeal in verse 7 and 8 – “…to look upon the Serpent on the Pole” – a foreshadowing of Jesus on the cross (John 3:14). Israel could not fight nor kill the snakes by themselves; they couldn’t move forward until God intervened. Prov. 29:25 – The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.

What Happened as They Looked unto Him

  • Death lost its grip over them
  • Total Healing was released as they looked unto Him
  • Shame was removed out of their midst
  • Progress came, as they moved forward to The Promise Land
  • Life was restored – Joel 2:25

In closing, “They looked unto Him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.” – Psalm 34:5.

If My people, which are called by My Name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My Face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 15 Now mine Eyes shall be open, and mine ears attend unto the prayer that is made in this place. 2 Chron. 7:14-15

God Bless You, Richly!
