Text: Joshua 1:1-7.
” 1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spoke unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying, 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. 5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I swore unto their fathers to give them. 7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.”
Every man is born with a Divine assignment; and these assignments come in phases. In our above Text, Joshua was being charged by God to lead His People into the Promise Land. The death of Moses had created a big vacuum, and God found Joshua as the suitable servant to fill the leadership vacuum. God has brought you forth for certain things. You are a solution to this generation. Every purpose of God needs a human vessel.
What God wants accomplished through your life will be far bigger than you, hence He comes to exhort you to be strong and of good courage. For God to use the word courage it means there is tendency for fear to arise. The assignment might be greater than you but all you need to succeed is already in you. Despite Christ being in the boat, the storm still arose but He overcame. Storms will usually arise against any Divine mandate. Gen. 1:28 is a Divine mandate to every man to have dominion on the earth. Storms usually arise when there is great assignment at hand. 1 Cor. 16:9 – “For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.”
Limitations come in form of embargoes and defects, but as believers in Christ, we have power to overcome every limitation and restriction. Every limitation is surmountable. We have been redeemed from every curse and demonic limitation. The Blessing of Abraham is your heritage as a child of God. You are never alone, God is with you to help you surmount that seeming obstacle or limitation. God often comes to encourage everyone He calls to a great task. He came to Moses to send him to lead His people out of bondage. He also came to Jeremiah in Jer. 1:6-7.
Despite our weaknesses and insufficiencies, God choses us so all could acknowledge His Greatness. Our inadequacies are not tenable excuses before God, He does use our seeming foolishness or defects to accomplish great feats. Moses despite being a stammerer was greatly used by God. Despite Isaiah’s filthiness, God used him after cleansing him.
Often times we are not courageous because we are ignorant of The Greater One within us. Every obstacle bows to The Greater One Who is in us.
