Text: Psalm 89:27-34.
” 27 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. 28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. 29 His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven. 30 If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; 31 If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; 32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. 33 Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail. 34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” KJV.
Sure Mercy implies that there are Mercies and there are Mercies; not all Mercies are Sure and certain. God assured His Own that His Covenant will not depart from them – Isaiah 54:10. Another name for Peace is Compassion. God is a God that is Sufficient for Himself and the whole world. Eph. 2:4 tells us that God is Rich in Mercy. His Mercy is great beyond description. For He again assured us He will never forsake us for His Name Sake (1 Sam. 22). Dan. 9:9-10 says “To The Lord our God belong Mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against Him.”
God has given us access to His Throne of Grace. Let us therefore come boldly unto The Throne of Grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Heb. 4:16. It is Grace that will gives us unmerited favor, while it is Mercy that makes God withdraw punishment for an offence committed.
God through His Sure Mercy also gives His Children invisible speed that surpasses that of a Horse (that runs 55km/hr.). Regardless of your situation, God knows it perfectly and in His Mercy, He will locate You. God has abundant Mercy for the whole world that can never be exhausted. God by His Mercy reversed the curse on Levi, He is still in the business of reversing curses. God always has the solution before any problem surfaces.
God gave Humans 3 key parts – Mouth, Hand and Leg. Destiny can be changed by what You Say. Our Mouth is a Weapon. God said He will bless the Work of our Hands. He also told Joshua wherever the sole of your feet touch, I will give it to You.
Sure Mercy means the Mercy is certain and cannot fail. Sure Mercy also means it is a settled matter before God. Ps. 119:89. Sure Mercy also means an Enduring Mercy (it has no expiration date) – Ps. 102:1-2.
Types of Mercy
Sparing Mercy – this is where God used the Blood of the Lamb to spare His People from the plague in land. Exod. 12:13. This is the Mercy that spared Baby Moses from being killed when others were slaughter.
Preserving Mercy – this is the Mercy that preserves our lives from the evil of every day and night. The Lord is the One Who sustains us when asleep. Ps. 3:5.
Saving Mercy – this is the Mercy that saved and made us God’s Sons and Daughters. This is the Mercy that gave us (fallen creatures in Adam) Eternal Life. John 1:12, John 10:28.
Inviting Mercy – this is a Mercy which invites a sinner to Redemption. This is Mercy that gives us Rest from every toiling. Matt. 11:28-29
Things that Could Make God Withdraw His Mercy
- When You challenge God’s Power in the life of His Servant.
- When You take God for granted.
- Loving God
- Showing Mercy to Others
- Laboring and sowing into God’s Kingdom
- Fearing and reverencing God – Jer. 23:24
- Having a grateful heart towards God
