Text: 2 Kings 2:1-15.
” 1And it came to pass, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. 2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel. 3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace. 4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho. 5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace. 6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the Lord hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on. 7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan. 8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither so that they two went over on the dry ground. 9 And it came to pass when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee before I am taken away from thee. And Elisha said I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. 10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so. 11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder, and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces. 13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan; 14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over. 15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.” KJV.
Isa. 43:6-7 – “ I will say to the north, give up; and to the south, keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; even everyone that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
We are not accidental creatures, God created us for a specific purpose to show forth His Glory. At the moment we are at one degree of His agenda and need to move to the next level. Stagnation at any level is not God’s agenda for our lives. He said in 2 Cor. 3:18 that, as we behold Him as in a mirror we are being transformed from Glory to Glory. Our paths should be like the sun shining brighter and brighter unto the perfect day. There is a higher ground God wants to take you and me to (we will not miss it in Jesus’ name).
A Man’s life is made up of series of breakthroughs. Wherever you are now, you broke through to be there. You broke through in your mother’s womb to be the only successful sperm that fertilized the egg. You are a winner by birth. After birth, you continued your breakthrough mission when you moved from crawling to walking to running. Breakthrough is in your DNA by God’s design. Wherever you are now is a preparatory place to your next level. There is a Mighty Hand (of God) that orchestrates your life even when you are not conscious of it. Nothing just happens to any child of God, He is always working behind the scene, even when it appears He is absent. He never leaves nor forsakes those He died for on The Cross of Calvary.
We serve a God of breakthroughs. He helps us breakthrough from one level to another as we are transformed. To get to your next level you have to be focused like Elisha in our above Bible text. Elisha knew exactly what he wanted and refused to be distracted until he got the double portion of his Master. He got what money can’t buy because he served faithfully. God gave us an open check, in Romans 8:32 – He Who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
God has a specific destiny for your life, don’t trade it for anything for that’s where His Glory would be made manifest for the world to see. Elisha got to his new level, era and destiny when the mantle fell on him.
In closing, many lives are depending on you to fulfill God’s next agenda, so your carefree attitude is not without grave consequences. The Lord Jesus prayed in John 17 – I have glorified you on the earth. I have finished the work which you have given me to do. And now, O Father, glorify me together with yourself, with the glory which I had with you before the world was.
God Bless You!
