Text: Heb. 1:1-3.
” 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” KJV
There is a ‘Glory’ and there is also a ‘Greater Glory’. Greater Glory is our portion in Christ Jesus. In the Old Testament, God spoke mostly through His prophets, but today He is speaking by His son, Jesus Christ. The son is the brightness of God’s Glory. Ps. 104: 1-3 displays the Greatness of God. Praise the Lord, my soul. Lord my God, you are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty. The Lord wraps Himself in light as with a garment; He stretches out the heavens like a tent. God created us in His Image and also surrounded us with His Glory. How can we sustain the Glory of God? Heb. 12 admonishes us set our gaze on Jesus the Author, Pioneer and Perfecter of our faith. The Lord Jesus is the template for experiencing the Glory of God – He disregarded the shame for the Glory that was ahead of Him. We likewise, should set our eyes on Him and stopping focusing on our abilities, talents and self. Our calling is to keep looking unto Jesus because everything about man is limited. Man will disappoint man like Man. Never put your trust on man but on God, who raises the dead.
Another lesson from Heb. 12 is that Jesus focused on His race. Your race is not my race; we all have our unique race from God. 2 Cor. 10:10 enjoins us never to compare ourselves with others. Joseph started his race at 30, while Moses started at 80 – we all have different paths ordained by God. Many parents have misled their children because of comparison with other children. God has a specific path for every child, our job is to seek Him for the unique assignment for each child. God in His Sovereignty did not take Israel through the short route to the promise land where they were going to experience a greater glory. God had a purpose for taking them through the wilderness. Sometimes we think the way of the Lord is very long, but never forget that whoever works with the Lord will never go wrong, God has a way of redeeming and restoring any seeming lost time. Nobody ever waited for Him and regretted it. God is interested in the journey while we are more interested in the destination. The destination is not in our hands but in His hands.
We must also be found faithful to experience a greater glory. Heb. 3 enjoins us to be faithful like Moses and the Lord Jesus were to God’s house. We should be faithful to God, spouse, family and circle of influence. An excellent wisdom must also be found in you if you must experience a greater glory. Daniel is a classical case study. We must also do away with filthy things (2 Cor. 6:17) in order to experience a greater glory. 2 Sam. 23:4-5 tells us what happens when you experience a greater glory – God will make your brightness to so shine that your enemies will have no choice but to bow in shame. Also your fame will spread globally, such that nobody can cover it.
Let us be careful about how we respond to the struggles of life. Everyone has a battle to fight in life, yours is not special, rather be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Also there are pains we come across in life, somebody, somewhere will betray or seek to hurt you in life (just as Judas did to Jesus), do not announce your weakness, it will only attract enemies to attack you.
In closing, Ps. 84:5 – What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
God bless you!
