Text: Luke 24:13-49, Phil. 3:10.
“13 And behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. 16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. 17 And he said unto them, what manner of communications is these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? 18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which have come to pass there in these days? 19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: 20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.” “42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and did eat before them. 44 And he said unto them, these are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. Phil. 3:10; “10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” KJV.
Without resurrection, there could be no Christianity. Christ is risen is the Anchor of our faith. All over the world, we are celebrating the ‘Resurrection Sunday’ – in remembrance of the Majesty of our Savior who passed through death for our sake. He came to give His life as a ransom for humanity. He is the Passover Lamb that had been slain (in the eyes of God) before the foundation of the world. Upon resurrection, He proved that He is indeed the resurrection and the life from eternity to eternity.
Luke 24 is largely the narration of the experience of two disciples on their way to Emmaus when they were accosted by the Lord Jesus (unknown to them). He explained and expounded the Scriptures to them all things written about Him from the book of Genesis. He manifested Himself during the breaking of bread and disappeared almost immediately. The two disciples experienced the Power of Christ’s resurrection firsthand.
Benefits of His Resurrection
- Because of His resurrection, you are no longer alone. The two disciples were confused but Jesus came to clear their minds. So anytime you are confused, Jesus is ever close by to help you with His resurrection power. Matt. 28:20. God is with you. Christ in you, the hope of glory.
- You are no longer in darkness. Our risen King is the Word that shines light into any area of our darkness.
- Your life will experience a landmark change. The two disciples’ sadness changed to joy unspeakable. Their fear was removed immediately.
- You are set free from every bondage courtesy of His resurrection power
- You are mobilized and strengthened by His resurrection power. After the breaking of bread, the veils fell off their eyes and their vision became clearer.
- Their hope was restored. Resurrection power restores every lost ground and opportunity.
- The testimony of the two disciples was reconfirmed by the appearance of Jesus to His disciples.
In closing, resurrection power is the Highest form of power because it is a power that conquered death. Matthew 28:6 – He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
1 Cor. 15:14 – And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty, and your faith is also empty.
God Bless You!
