Text: Ps. 48:1-14 .
” 1 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. 2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. 3 God is known in her palaces for a refuge. 4 For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together. 5 They saw it, and so they marveled; they were troubled, and hasted away. 6 Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail. 7 Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind. 8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah. 9 We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple. 10 According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness. 11 Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments. 12 Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof. 13 Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following. 14 For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.” KJV
God admonishes us to always rejoice and never worry about tomorrow because He is the Great God over creation. God is our strength and pillar. Regardless of what the enemy is doing, We are at rest because God remains on His Throne. David never allowed the threats of the enemy to affect his praise to God, he was always more conscious of God’s presence than the enemy’s threats. This is why he was eulogizing God in the above Text (Ps. 48:1), “Great is The LORD, and greatly to be praised.”
God has done many unbelievable things in our lives, so He is worthy of our praise and adoration. Other gods sleep and slumber but never our God. Rev. 4:8-11 show a picture of the Heavenly Hosts bowing and praising Him day and night – “Holy, Holy, Holy is The LORD God Almighty.”
God is ever there with us as our present help in time of need. God is beyond other gods, who have hands but can’t deliver, eyes but can’t see, ears but can’t hear.
None can stand the Might of our God; He is in a class all by Himself. Dagon never survived to tell the story of the terror and Majesty of our Living God. The God we serve is the Mighty Creator, who never came into existence but gave existence to all existence. The ungodly carry their gods beneath their armpit or hanged on a tree, but Our God dwells in our hearts, We carry Him wherever we go. His presence is what makes us different and unperturbed about whatever the enemy is doing.
God created the whole Heaven and Earth and upholds all by His power. He can hold the waters in the hollow of His hand, before Him all nations are nothing. His sovereignty is over all.
- God is great in Wisdom. He created us by His wisdom and also redeemed us by His manifold wisdom. He guides us with His wisdom.
- God is great in Mercy. His Mercies are new towards us every morning. God can never be fathomed as He is beyond comprehension.
- God knows everything, nothing is hidden to Him. He never learns or discovers anything new. He knows what nobody knows, hence we trust Him even when we can’t trace Him.
- God is so great, He has no origin. He has no history.
- God is so great, He never change. He never reneges on His promises. He can never lie.
- God is great in Faithfulness. Lam. 3:21
- God is great in doing us good. He daily loads us with benefits. Ps. 68:19
- God is great in power. He has power to deliver and do whatsoever He desires. Ps. 62:11, Luke 1:37
He created all of us with a unique DNA, hence He has comprehensive knowledge about everything you are going through. David acknowledged the greatness of God’s Omnipresence and Omniscience in Psalm 139.
In closing, 2 Chron. 20, narrates to us the power of praise in activating God to fight our battles. In this new month, create an environment of praise and thanksgiving around you and watch how He will deal with every troubler of your life.
