Men’s Health – A Christian’s Perspective – Dr. Idowu Adebara
Studies show that men generally live a bit shorter than women in USA. Studies also show that more than 50% of men will have hypertension, also that men are 4 times are more likely to commit suicide than women. God made us in His Image and thus we should be like God.
Leading causes of Death among Men
- Cardiovascular diseases (the Heart). Many times, this is without symptoms. Some risk factors are hypertension and family history. We should check the quality of food we eat (50% fruits and vegetables, 25% of protein). We should avoid a stressful lifestyle. We should live an active lifestyle (exercise).
- Cancer Awareness– see your doctor for any unusual symptoms. Be vigilant of testicular cancer in younger males and prostate cancer in older males. Examine your testicles in the shower for any abnormality in size, texture or shape and follow up with your doctor.
- Erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation. These are common causes of mental stress in women.
- Mental Health in Men needs to be discussed. Emotional stressors should be addressed. Remove the stigma of emotional expressions from childhood. These stressors lead to poor performance at work and at home. Some men cope in a negative manner – drinking, clubbing, pornography, and all other forms of acting out
What can You do to Live a Healthy Life as a Man
- Remove all barriers
- Learn to seek help and support from the right people
- Increase physical activity (regular exercise)
- Take adequate health.
- Form mentorship and support groups for young men.
In conclusion 1 Peter 5 reminds us to cast all our cares upon God for He cares for us.
Women’s Health – Dr. (Mrs.) Adenrele Adebisi
Victory is not only spiritual; it applies to our health also. Your body is the Temple of God requiring your attention. Your body needs to be able and strong enough to carry out your assignment in life.
There are four pillars to living a healthy life
- Your Mindset – It determines what action you will take. If you have a family history of one medical condition or the other, you might feel like there is no action you can take. Your perspective on the diagnosis determines which actions you will take.
- Your Physical Health – Diet, Exercise and Health. If you are 35 years and above, your last meal of the day should be at least 3 hours before you sleep. Late night eating causes your liver to produce more cholesterol contributing to higher blood levels. Exercise regularly. Take time to rest. Evening exercise create hormones that help you sleep better at night. Do not ignore the warning signs your body is giving you before it’s too late.
- Your Relationships – The stronger your relationships the longer your life and better mental health. Who is in your corner? Isolation is as similar as smoking 15 cigarettes per day.
- Your Purpose – people with purpose have a longer life and make better health choices.
What do You need to do
- Be intentional – send reminders if you need to
- Get an accountability partner – this will help you stay consistent.
In conclusion, victory begins in the heart. Make up your mind that you are going to be healthy.
Mental Health – Pastor (Mrs.) Christianah Coleman
1 in 3 people experience mental health issues. Mental illness is a condition that impairs how we think, feel or process life situations. Mental health is not madness, it is a disorder. It happens to both young and old.

However, our focus today is personality disorder – this is a combination of qualities that make up our character.
The DSM classified in the following disorders

Lessons from Jehoshaphat
- Recognize the greatness of God and acknowledge humbly that God is your sources
- Turn the problem over to God – inquire with God how he wants to resolve the issue.
- Get God’s word on the situation. The bible is a manual that addresses the issue you are experiencing.
In conclusion, take a leaf from the proverbs 31 woman. Let her be a model for living a victorious life.
