Men On The Move (IGA Men’s Week – Grand Finale)

Men On The Move (IGA Men’s Week – Grand Finale)

Ministering: Senior Pastor Shola Awobajo

Text:  1 Sam. 17:41-54.

41 And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him. 42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance. 43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field. 45 Then said David to the Philistine, thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 46 This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord‘s, and he will give you into our hands. 48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. 51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled. 52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron. 53 And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents. 54 And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his Armour in his tent.” KJV

The 21st Century men are men on a journey to change the norm & status quo. Today, many men have lost their bearing as some have confused their identity as “females”. Many men have gone into hiding and now a shadow of themselves. The army of Israel were hiding from Goliath (who is a type of Satan) until David (a type of Christ) showed up and instill courage into them by slaying the enemy. God is calling men today to come back to his original purpose and will. Many issues (like fear, poverty, immigration, etc.) are still bullying men and keeping them in hiding. Fear of the Goliath will keep you low in life, for God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind.

David was a youth yet, was the vessel God used to deliver His people from the bullying of the enemy. Goliath’s threating’s was but a noise to David, who knew his covenant with God. It is high time we face and confront every giant in our world. As children of God, we should never be intimidated by any dysfunctional situation in our society, like same-sex marriage, gun-shootings, etc. Every Goliath is an opportunity for promotion, hence we should confront them in the name of the Lord. David was promoted after he slayed Goliath.

Every man on the move has a tested weapon for slaying their Goliath. You cannot use another person’s weapon to slay your goliath; David rejected Saul’s armor because he hadn’t tested it. Your weapon might be unconventional but if it is what God has trained you with, it will slay any goliath before you. We receive our unique weapons through constant fellowship with God.

As a child of God, all that you needed to slay any Goliath is inside of you; for Christ in you is the hope of glory. Jesus knew what to do at every crossroad. We should always be on the move; as we move, God moves with us. David moved towards Goliath and God moved with him. God is looking for men to surrender themselves to Him. Our first move should first be towards God because we can’t succeed by our power. It is by the Greater One in us that we overcome every enemy. The Pillar behind you is bigger than any force against you. The world is chaotic, and men appear to be silent; this is a clarion call for us to arise from slumber and move to slay Goliath by the Spirit of the Lord.

God has made His children a god onto every Goliath (Ps. 82:6-7), hence, we should never run away but boldly confront every Goliath.

Things that Spur Men to Move

  • Be a man filled with the Spirit of God – 1 Sam. 16:1-13
  • Be a man of vision. It takes vision to slay any Goliath. It is the breath of God on any weapon that makes it dangerous. Be a man that creates a vision for your family. No matter how tiny the vision looks (like David’s Sling), believe in it and it will do the miraculous.
  • Be a man of Faith – Heb. 10:38
  • Be a man of Confidence – Phil. 4:13
  • Be a man who never quit in any battle – 1 Tim. 6:12
  • Be a man that will not give the enemy the final say

In closing, Jabez was a man on the move, and he moved towards God and God elevated him “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So, God granted him what he requested” – 1 Chron. 4:9-10. Ezek. 22:30 – So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.

God bless you!
