Text: Gen. 26:1-5, 12-22.
“1And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. 2 And the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: 3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swore unto Abraham thy father; 4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; 5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. 13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: 14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him. 15 For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth. 16 And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we. 17 And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there. 18 And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them…” KJV
There is something spectacular about “Rehoboth”. Rehoboth is one of the things God has given every believer to enjoy in life. Rehoboth cannot be experienced when intentionality is absent. It is through connection with God that Rehoboth is enjoyed. Rehoboth is a place God has ordained for your fruitfulness to the extent that men begin to envy you. Rehoboth signify “Authority”. It is a place where you are honored and dignified. Rehoboth is also a place of “Peace” (John 14:27).
From our above text, despite the famine in the Land, God told Isaac to stay in the Land. God was guiding Isaac because of His covenant with Abraham. You are not in RCCG Isaac Generation by accident, God’s goal is to bring you to your “Rehoboth”, like He did for Isaac. There are certain foundations and originalities that should never be discarded as we ascend in life – our Fathers have labored, and God’s plan is to make their children also enjoy the fruits of their labor. God told Isaac not to leave so that he wouldn’t miss his blessing. Isaac sowed in the Land and God made the Philistines to envy him. Nobody could stop Isaac because the force backing him was from above. Isaac avoided strife despite the unjust treatment from inhabitants of the land. You cannot get to Rehoboth without successfully passing through Esek (a place of competition, hatred, etc.) and Sitnah (a place where people don’t like your God and Person).
Gen. 26:21-22 “… But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” So, he called the name of the well Esek, because they quarreled with him. Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over that one also. So, he called its name Sitnah. 22 And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. So, he called its name Rehoboth, because he said, “For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” Never allow other’s opinions and offence hinder you from getting to your Rehoboth. Many People stopped at “Esek” and “Sitnah” because of little offences here and there. What is ahead of You is far greater than all you have suffered in the past. Your best days are ahead of you not behind you. Offences are traps to stop you from getting to Rehoboth.
Offense if not checked will beget Anger which will beget unforgiveness and then resentment and then bitterness and then hatred. Hatred opens the door for the enemy to bring regression, then suppression, and then depression and then oppression and then obsession and demonic possession.
Rehoboth cannot be experienced when bitterness is still in the heart. Despite all his brothers did, Joseph forgave them and told them, they might have meant it for evil but God turned it around for his good. Joseph knew no mortal could stop him in life as long as his fellowship with God was intact. Joseph prospered in all he did because God was with him.
God bless you!
