33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.KJV.

Our above is a clear instruction that comes with a promise. It is an order to priority the things of God above our lives.

1. Seeking the Kingdom of God – to seek means to pursue and make something an object of focus. It is to search as if nothing else matters. What is God expecting we seek most in life? His Kingdom! His Kingdom is where His will is done, and His reign is present. We have the present reality of the Kingdom and a future reality of the Kingdom. His will is where we find His reality, whether in your heart, home, or City. The future aspect of His Kingdom points to a promise that one day, His Kingdom will be fully manifested. Daniel 2:44 says it will be a Kingdom that will never be destroyed but will crush every other Kingdom. This future aspect of His Kingdom is where all pain, sin, brokenness will be no more. This Kingdom is when God’s perfect reign will be for eternity. We normally seek for things that have value, treasures that captivate our heart. The Kingdom of God is worth seeking, because it has infinite value. Matt. 13:44 calls it a very precious treasure a man finds and hides it. Matt. 13:46 likens to a pearl of great value. His Kingdom demands our attention, and utmost commitment.

2. Seeking His Righteousness – This is His next commandment. Righteousness means being in right standing with God. It is when you live a life that reflects God’s holiness, love and all nature. Our Righteousness with God is built on a right standing with Him through Jesus Christ. Righteousness also means aligning your thoughts, decisions and actions to the standard of God. Obedience is the fruit of our faith. John 14:15 says if You love Him, you will keep His commands. James 2:26. Righteousness means to calibrate your will to the will of God in everything. It is not something we can achieve on our own, it is given to us through faith in Christ. Wherever you are weak, Christ makes Himself your strength as you abide in Him.

3. All these things shall be added to You – These refers to all the daily concerns of life – food, clothing, shelter etc. Matt. 6:23-26. God does not want us concerned about these things because He takes care of them as we seek His Kingdom. He knows all we need before we even ask. Beyond physical needs, He also commits to give what money can’t buy – Isaiah 23:6 – Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

In conclusion, The Kingdom of God requires our response. The parable of the Sower in Matt. 13 explains how people generally respond to the Kingdom. Some will hear the words of the Kingdom and disregarded it; some will hear but because they have no depth, Satan steals the seed; some will hear but allow the cares of things of the world to choke it, and the last category received the word on the good ground of their heart and thus bore great fruits.

As Christians, we are to have the word of God rooted in our lives. Regardless of the trials or worry that come your way, ensure nothing takes priority in your life aside the Kingdom.

Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

God Bless You!
