Text: Matt. 15:21-28.
” 21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly. 23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” 24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” 25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. 26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” 27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” 28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.”
Mothers are very vital to us in life. Without them, we could not be born. We are here Today to appreciate The Lord for His Grace on our Mothers. Mothers are very passionate about the total well-being of their family. They essentially live for their children. Mothers have many feathers on their cap – aside their vocation, they are also Teachers, Nourishers, Intercessors, etc at home.
Great is the love of mothers towards their children. The Love of Mother is compared to The Love of God in Isaiah 49:15 – “Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you.” They raise our children in supporting God’s idea for creation. Every family, community and nation running well are products of Good Mothers. Our Mothers often forgo their pleasure, career for the sake of a greater tomorrow for their children and family.
Motherhood is an assignment our Mothers did not turn down. For their never giving up despite our flaws, we say Thank You. For all the pains you went through to make us what we are, we say, Thank You!
Our above Text is an account of how a mother beseeched The Lord for Mercy over her daughter. Though the response was initially “No”, she kept pleading even despite the seeming “insult”, she persevered until her request was granted. This is the heart of a good mother towards her children. Heaven may be silent over the Prayers of Mothers, but they never give up until Heavens answers their request. The calling of a Mother is a life-long calling – they never retire, they keep interceding for their children. Our mothers need their husbands to be companions not just roommates.
To our men, we should never allow our women to stand-alone, especially in a crisis, we should supply all needed help. As godly husbands, we should stand with them, their vision is our vision; their pain is our pain, we should never allow them to run any project alone, we should support them.
Ephesians 5:25-28 – Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.
To our Children, we should celebrate God in the lives of our mothers and say Thank You. We should obey them, honor them, make them proud by our great accomplishments in life and never forget them in their old age. Eph. 6:1-3
God Bless You!
