Text: Deut. 29:1-15.
” 1 These are the words of the covenant, which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb. 2 And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land; 3 The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles: 4 Yet the Lord hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day. 5 And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot. 6 Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the Lord your God. 7 And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them: 8 And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh. 9 Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do. 10 Ye stand this day all of you before the Lord your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel, 11 Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water: 12 That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the Lord thy God, and into his oath, which the Lord thy God maketh with thee this day: 13 That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath; 15 But with him that standeth here with us this day before the Lord our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:“
Today is our annual IGA Covenant Day where we renew His Covenant with us and our families. The totality of our being is because of His Covenant with Us. We are the evidence that there is a Living God Who has Ears and can hear, Who has Eyes and can see, and Who has Hands and can deliver – what a Might God!
God relates with man by Covenant. We were Saved through the Covenant enacted by The Blood of Jesus Christ. Joshua had to circumcise all the males in Israel before they entered into the Promise Land. Joshua 5. Jacob as well renewed his walk with God by a Covenant in Bethel.
God always brings us back to Bethel to renew His Covenant with man. Gen. 35:1-4 – Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.” And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments. Then let us arise and go up to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me in the way which I have gone.”
Why Do We Renew Covenant?
- God commanded it so as to maintain fellowship with us. Rom. 12:1-2.
- We renew Covenant so as not to miss the next move of God in our lives.
- Covenant renewal is an opportunity to present any stubborn issue to God. 1 Sam. 1:19-20.
- We are reenacting the efficacy of the original Covenant. 1 Cor. 11:25.
- We are recommitting God back to us. He continues to be our God. Deut. 29:13, Gen. 35:35.
A Covenant is a formal agreement between two or more parties to do or not to do certain practices. It is a sacred relationship between God and His Children. A Covenant is the highest form of relationship God can have with any person. Exod. 12:13.
God is Faithful, He never fails in His Covenant. He always does whatever it takes to fulfill His Covenant Promises. He parted the Red Sea because of a Covenant. He brought them into the Promise Land because of His Covenant.
Heb. 6:13-14, 18 – For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. God never break His Covenant. Ps. 89:34-35.
Jesus always comes to us through His Covenant to give us Life in the place of death; to give fruitfulness in the place of dryness; to transform any decadence situation; and to give us more and more abundance (joy, increase, etc.).
Keep your focus on The Lord Jesus Christ – the Author and Finisher of our Faith. He has enacted The New Covenant for us. He has redeemed us. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Gal. 3:13-14
God Bless You!
