Text: Matthew 19:5-6.
” 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.“
God is The Author of Marriage. Prov. 24:3-4 says “Through Wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; By knowledge the rooms are filled. With all precious and pleasant riches”. A Family is not built by beauty or money but by Wisdom. Anything other than the Wisdom and Knowledge of God, things will surely fall apart. If the foundation be destroyed, what can a righteous man do? The Lord by Wisdom founded the Earth, so without His Wisdom, Your Marriage has no lasting Foundation.
There is no perfect marriage but we have to hunt for relevant Knowledge to grow our marriage; buy the Truth and sell it not. Our Knowledge of God’s Purpose for Marriage must be updated continually, because this is how New Wine comes into our Home. We have to be deliberate about the quality of materials we are using to build our Marriage. A Good marriage is not wished for but worked at with great deal of intentionality.
Christ alone is the greatest Foundation any Marriage can have. 1 Cor. 3:11-13. He is the Solid Rock that keeps the marriage in the face of any storm. Every Marriage will be tested with trials of life; and these storms are basically to reveal what a Marriage has been built on – if Christ, the marriage comes out better & stronger.
Common Causes of Marital Problems:
- Many couples are not ready to leave and cleave to their spouse. Matt. 19:5-6
- Many couples do not understand their Biblical roles as husband/wife. Eph. 5:25-29
- Many couples do not understand their unique personality traits is to complement each other.
- Many couples have not made up their minds that divorce is not any option
- Many couples are the undoing of their marriage by doing nothing to build their homes.
- Many wives are not help-mates to their husbands.
- Many couples are not enlightened about the details of the Manufacturer’s instruction (The Bible) for Marriage. Prov. 2
- Never use sex as a punishment for your spouse. 1 Cor. 7:1-4
- Not being open and transparent to one another.
- Little foxes such as unforgiveness
- Not being tolerant with one another – Not overlooking minor weaknesses of one another
- If both are not submitting to one another in the fear of The Lord.
