The Great Physician.

The Great Physician.

Text: John 5:1-11.

1After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. 10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. 11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.” KJV.

Jesus all through His earthly ministry had a zero tolerance to sicknesses and infirmities; everywhere He went, He was doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil. Our above text is a classical example of when Jesus would go out of His way to heal – even when not approached for healing, like this impotent man in John 5. Bethsaida means the house of mercy. It was at this pool of Bethsaida that the Lord’s mercy singled out this impotent man (who had been in that condition for 38 years). The Church is the house of God’s mercy – the set time is now for Him to have mercy on all that come to Him. All Jesus asked was – “would you want to be made whole?” The medical practitioners and their prescriptions may have failed you but Jesus will never fail you.

Unlike in the time of old when an Angel comes once a year to stir the waters and only the first person gets healed, today, The great physician has paid the price for the healing of all, thus, the waiting game is over. In John 5, He said now is the time for the dead to hear the voice of the Son of God and they that hear shall live. This great physician does not have a waiting list neither does He have off days. For this reason, the Son of God was manifested that He might destroy the works of the devil – 1 John 3:8b.

As believers in Christ Jesus, we have been given power and authority to exercise dominion over all sicknesses and diseases. Just as He said to the impotent man, “rise up, take up your bed and walk.” He is admonishing us today to rise up and exercise our dominion in Him over every impotency. He died that we may live. His Stripes was the gruesome price He paid for our healing and deliverance. As we feed on His word, we are empowered to exercise lordship over every anti-scriptural situation around us.

Things that Make People Stagnant in Life

  • Physical sickness
  • Mental or psychological issues – poor mindset or a victim mentality.
  • You been put on the “waiting list”. Job 14:14
  • You are been forced or compelled by the enemy to remain on same spot
  • Weariness and tiredness – 1 Kings 19:6-8

Healing starts from within – your mind is very crucial to being healed. Have your mind renewed with the Word of God. God’s word is medicinal – it is healing to all our bones. Prov. 4:22. Our physical wellbeing is very important to God. An unhealthy person cannot really serve God. Our regenerated spirit needs a healthy to carry it. For 40 years in the wilderness, none was sick in the camp of the Israelites. God is as much interested in our physical health as with our mental and spiritual health so that our service can be complete in Him.

In closing, He said in 3 John 2 – Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord, ‘because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; No one seeks her – Jeremiah 30:17.

God Bless You!
