Text: 2 Sam. 9:1-13.
“ 1 And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake? 2 And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said Thy servant is he. 3 And the king said, Is there not yet any of the houses of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet. 4 And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar. 5 Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar. 6 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant! 7 And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually. 8 And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am? 9 Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master’s son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house. 10 Thou, therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master’s son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread always at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. 11 Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons. 12 And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth. 13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet.”
Our God always remembers His Own. He opened His Book of Remembrance – remembered Mordecai in Esther 6 and he was honored.
Our above Text is about the power of Covenant between two parties; David and Jonathan had made a covenant and despite the demise of Jonathan, David showed loving-kindness to Jonathan’s Son (Mephibosheth). He not only restored Mephibosheth (who had been living as a fugitive) but also granted him access to be eating at the king’s table continually.
Just as David remembered Mephibosheth for Jonathan’s sake, God also remembers us for Christ’s sake. Mephibosheth was living in Lodibar means a wasteland, dry place, barren land, etc. Many like Mephibosheth are living Lodibar, but God has opened His Book of Remembrance concerning you to deliver you from every Lodibar.
Mephibosheth’s name means the destroyer of shame. Despite such a wonderful name, he was living in shame but Grace located and brought restoration and he began to experience the manifestation of His Name.
Lessons Learnt from Above Text
1. There is always a “left-over” that God can bless. 1 Kings 17: 7-16
2. The Mercies of God never comes to an end. No matter the Lodibar situation, God will arise and have mercy on Zion. Ps. 102:13, Lam. 3:21-23
3. When The Lord gives you an encounter, how you started no longer matters, He helps you to end very well. Mephibosheth ended at King’s Table
4. When God remembers you, it does not matter how much you have lost – you will surely be restored.
5. God never runs dry of channels to bless you.
6. Our God is a God of Covenant, He never forgets His Covenant. Exod. 3:25
In closing, the Moral of this lesson is that there was a time we also were strangers and aliens to God’s Covenant with Israel (in the kingdom of Darkness as enemies of God) but God’s Mercy sought for us and delivered us from “Lodibar” and granted us access to the King’s Table through The Blood of Jesus Christ.
Finally, do not be contented with your Lodibar, rise up, and come to God; He will beautify you with His Glory. Rom.5:8-10 – But God demonstrates His own Love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
God Bless You!
