What A Great God!

What A Great God!

Ministering: Senior Pastor Shola Awobajo.

Text: Psalm 48:1-14.

1 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. God is known in her palaces for a refuge. For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together. They saw it, and so they marveled; they were troubled and hasted away. Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail. Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind. As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it forever. Selah. We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple. 10 According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness. 11 Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments. 12 Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof. 13 Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following. 14 For this God is our God forever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.

The God we serve is a Great & Faithful God. He is an incredible God deserving incredible praise. He is a God no one can fathom. In His Mercy, He decided to keep us alive. Song – “How great is our God – how great is His Name, He rolled back the waters of the mighty Red Sea. And He said I’m going to lead you, Put your trust in Me.”

We have come this morning to praise and appreciate Him for the great and impossible things He has been doing in our lives. Rev. 4:10-11 – The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure, they are and were created.

He preserves us for His pleasure, glory, and praise. The Psalmist having seen the gods of the Amorites, Dagon, Baal, etc, then turns to eulogize God as The Great God. A God in Whom no other god compares to.

HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD

  1. He is great in Wisdom. His Wisdom is beyond man’s wisdom. By His Wisdom, He created the heavens and the earth.
  2. He is great in His thoughts. His thought is infinitely higher than ours.
  3. He is great at Knowledge. His knowledge is unfathomable. He is aware of everything about every creature. What a Great God we serve! Ps. 147:5.
  4. He is great because He does not have an origin. He is without beginning nor end. Heb. 13:8.
  5. He is unchangeable. Mal. 3:3.
  6. He is great in His Faithfulness.
  7. He is great in power. Ps. 62:11.
