1 Corinthians 4:7 – “For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it , why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it ?
What does Withholding mean? To Withhold means to hold back, to refuse to relish control over something to God. It also means to refuse to totally surrender one’s entire being to God. Everything we have has been given to us by God so why should we withhold anything from Him?
As Children of The Most High we should withhold nothing but surrender all to God, particularly:
1. Our Time
2. Our resources – Luke 6:38
3. Our Comfort
4. Our Thanksgiving
5. Our Praises – Ps 22:3
Can God withhold anything from us? Yes He can but has chosen not to except things that can hurt us. For example, He warned Adam and Eve not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil because it will would hurt them. So when God withholds anything from us we can be sure it is for our good. All through Scriptures we see great vessels who did not withhold from God – Hannah (Samuel) and Abraham (Isaac) are classical examples of those who gave back their most precious possession to God.
What Happens When We Do Not Totally Surrender to God?
1. Sin. Whatever we withhold from God will ultimately lead us to sin.
2. Separation from God. Adam and Eve were separated when they disobeyed God.
3. Defeat. We will be experiencing defeat from every side when we withhold from God.
4. Shame will be imminent when we withhold from God.
It is the fallen human nature to withhold things from God but because every good and perfect gifts comes from Our Father God, we should never entertain the thought of withholding anything from Him.
In closing, we should totally surrender to God because
there is nothing we have that hasn’t been given to us by God.
A man can receive nothing except it be given from above. John 3:27. Our time, money, resources, children, and other possessions may appear precious but should always be surrendered to God.
