Your Heart, Your Money and The Kingdom

Your Heart, Your Money and The Kingdom

Ministering: Pastor Shola Awobajo

Text: Matthew 19:16-24 – Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
The above text is an account of the Lord with a certain young, rich ruler who wanted to know what else to do (having kept all the commandments) in order to inherit Eternal Life. The Lord’s response surprised him that he should go and sell all he has and give to the poor. The Kingdom of God is not in eating and drinking, but in righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. We were redeemed to make an impact in life as all our earthly possessions and qualifications carry no eternal value.

Only our investments towards the Kingdom of God have Eternal Value.

A man’s life does not consist of the abundance of the things he has. The young, rich ruler went away sad because he had much more riches that he did not want to part with. Everything God has given to us is on Trust. He starts by giving us little in order to test our faithfulness. Your wealth is a gift from God and not your making. God has deposited some grace in your hands on Trust. Not everyone has been graced by God to do what you do effortlessly. Never take God’s gift for granted as such could be withdrawn if you are unfaithful. Many are living their lives based on what they have without any thought of making the investment in God’s Kingdom.
God wants us to plan, but not to be so consumed with selfish desires like that the rich man that had lots of barns, but was only interested in hoarding and making his soul merry and his soul was taken from him that night. Scripture asked to whom would all those things he labored for go to? His problem was that he was not Kingdom-minded. Luke 12:16-21. Empty we came and empty we will go. It is what we have invested in The Kingdom of God that follows you after death to the other side of Eternity. God wants us to be the head, but not to make money our god nor be stingy towards the poor and His Kingdom. Money has been the devil’s trap to a lot of people, marriages and destinies. A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of things he has. Your joy should never be on your earthly possessions but on the Lord Jesus Christ.
We are Treasurers of God

Money has given a lot of people false confidence, but they soon discovered money has wings. Never trade your salvation for anything. As believers, we were redeemed to add value to others. God gives us things so as to add value to others. The Lord gave the parable of the sower in Luke 8. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 – “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Things to do with Your Money and Position

1. Use it for The Kingdom of God and make sure you help, develop and support others with all God has given you.
2. Love the people of God with all that you have. Gal. 6:17
3. Live a sacrificial life. God, Himself sacrificially gave His Son to us. Romans 8:32
