Ministering: Ifeoluwa Durosimi
Text: James 3:2-5.
” 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!“ KJV
Words are very powerful for by it, God created the Heavens and the Earth. This means words were not initially for communication but for creation. Unfortunately, many people are not thoughtful of the words they speak. What if your words became physical beings? Many are not aware how powerful their words shape the outcomes of their lives. We should resist the urge of speaking when our emotions are negative. All words we speak reflect our character. The most lasting impression people have of us are our words. Our words determine the type of persons we are. God is not going to judge you based on what anyone says but the words of your mouth. Matt. 12:36. If you cannot sign your name on it, then do not say it.
We should not be people who use words to destroy others, rather our words should be ministering life and grace to people. Our words are seeds that will unfailingly produce fruits. We have to pay attention for every word we speak just as we pay attention on what we spend our money on. God will give us what He hears us say. Your words not only affect others but also affects you – words are double-edged swords. This is why we need to prophesy good words into our lives, children and others. Let your words glorify God and edify others. There is a relationship between your words and your mouth. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. In the absence of good words, it’s better to be quiet. If you are going to fight with your mouth with negative words, then you are not giving room for God to fight for you.
Reasons to be Mindful of Your Words
- Your words are seeds into others’ lives and yours
- God will give you what You are saying
- Our words ought to please God.
- Many people’s lives have been destroyed by words of others.
Imagine if your words were broadcasted on national TV, how proud would you be? God’s word should be stored in our hearts in abundance so as to become the words flowing from our mouth. Jesus never spoke any vain or useless words. It is a good thing to listen more than speaking for sin is not lacking in a multitude of words. Ps. 141:3 – Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Many have committed suicide because of the negative words spoken to them. People may not remember your attire but will always remember the impression of your words on them. Never let the Devil use your tongue to cause sorrow to others, rather be thankful and correct in love.
Even when circumstances are not favorable, God’s word advises us to speak words of life into such situation rather than repeating the negative situation. Let the weak say I am strong. Be a person that speak good news to others. You are not limited by blessing others, rather sow good seeds through your words.
In closing, James 3:2-5 says – For in many things we offend all. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
God bless you!
