Step In & Take Over!

Step In & Take Over!

April 2026 | Possessing & Taking Over New Territories

Ministering: Senior Pastor Shola Awobajo.

Text: Joshua 1:1-9.

1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.NKJV

God has a specific place He is taking you, don’t settle for a mediocre life. He redeemed us to step into different territories and take it over for Him. Territories could represent different fields (politics, education, technology, neighborhoods, etc.). The Lord in His great commission asked us to go into the world and make disciples of all nations … and these signs shall follow them that believe.

You are bound to be victorious in every battle because Christ already paid for it. We take over territories so that the King of kings can reign in every sphere. If we fail to take over, many destinies will suffer.

A life in Christ is not meant to be static; there must be measurable growth in every year. 1 Cor. 3:18 tells us, we are changed from glory to glory as we behold the Lord. There is always more land to possess, hence a higher capacity and wisdom will always be needed.

In Genesis 12, God called Abraham out of his father’s house (comfort zone) into a land he knew not. As seeds of Abraham through Christ Jesus, God also takes us out of our comfort zones. In Deut. 9:1-2, God charged Israel to go possess greater and mightier nations than them; the strength of the enemy should never scare us because God always goes before us. Your seeming incapacity or unworthiness are no excuses before God because our completeness is in Him.

In Acts 1:8 says, we shall receive power after the Holy Spirit comes upon us, so we can be His witnesses everywhere. Our destiny is a global destiny because of what God promised Abraham and His seed (a blessing to all the nations of the earth). The achievements of our parents should be our starting point because God is a progressive God. You must be intentional to possess more territories as the battle is never for weaklings. God has already given you the land, but you must be courageous to evict the enemy.

What It Entails to Take Over New Territories

  • Take hold of what God has promised you in His word
  • Expand your mental influence through knowledge acquisition
  • Come up hither in your walk with God.
  • Ask God to enlarge your capacity so you can make greater impacts. Jabez is a case study – 1 Chron. 4:9-10
  • Ask God to open your eyes to see where your New Territory is.
  • Courage is a must to acquire new territory. Matt. 11:12
  • Let the word of God be your compass (GPS). Joshua 1:8
  • Take actionable steps of faith and see the victory ahead. God gives us as far as our eyes can see – Josh. 3:15-16
  • Fortify yourself because there will be battles. Walls of Jericho are usually around every territory.
  • You must refuse to settle early (avoid the status quo), keep marching forward. Numbers 32:1-2

In closing, Isaiah 53:3-4 tells us Christ already paid for our inheritance but we need to grow up to possess our rich inheritance in Christ Jesus. Gal. 4:1-2. The Lord said in John 16:33 – “These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me you might have peace.  In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

God Bless You, Richly!
