Text: Isaiah 61:1-6.
“1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” 4 And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations. 5 Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, And the sons of the foreigner Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. 6 But you shall be named the priests of the Lord, They shall call you the servants of our God. You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, And in their glory you shall boast.” NKJV
Every visitation of God is for a purpose; He always comes with His anointing.
In Ps. 89:20, God located David and anointed him for a specific assignment (King over Israel). The Anointing comes to separate and empower for a divine assignment. With the anointing on you, it’s no longer going to be by your abilities but by His grace. Every King and Priest in Israel was anointed to be able to fulfill their calling. In the New Testament, we also see the Holy Spirit separating Paul and Silas for a divine assignment – Acts 13:2-3. There is a divine purpose for your life, your marriage, your stay in U.S, your vocation in the marketplace, etc.
What is Anointing? Anointing is God’s power working through a man to accomplish what human abilities can never achieve. The anointing is to set you apart from the crowd and place you in your own class. The anointing is God putting His favor & honor on you. The anointing comes to distinguish you regardless of your family background, stature, qualifications, race, etc. God’s anointing is a seal of His excellence in what He has sent you to do. Daniel 5:12. In 1 Sam. 10, we see how the anointing distinguished Saul and made him a captain and king over God’s people.
Our above text (Isaiah 61) was the unfolding of the Lord’s earthly ministry. Anointing is the visible effects of the invisible presence of God in your life which produces supernatural feats. Acts 20:38 shows God anointed Jesus with Holy Ghost and power and He accomplished outstanding results.
What The Anointing comes to do?
- It distinguishes you from the commoners. Luke 4:20
- It delivers you from obscurity; it removes the veil. David was sent for from the wilderness.
- The Anointing will accelerate you. Divine speed accompanies all you do. Psalm 89:20-21
- The Anointing will announce & distinguish you. Esther 2:15-17
- The Anointing will silence every opposition in your life. Psalm 89:22
- It will produce supernatural wisdom.
How to Preserve The Anointing
- Live a life of holiness. Heb. 1:9, Ps. 24:3-6
- Constant fellowship with God to maintain His presence all the time.
- Walk in obedience to the Lord. Disobedience dries up the Anointing. Judges 16:20
- Be diligent with your gift. Prov. 22:29
- Remain humble, stay away from pride.
In closing, as believers in Christ Jesus, we are the trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified through our lives.
